Tips For Acne Skin

If you have acne prone skin avoid shell fish, kelp and iodized foods as this will exacerbate acne. Be careful of dairy products with iodized foods due to cows salt liking habits. A diet with whole grains, raw vegetables, fruits, soy, purified and alkaline water is recommended. The basic principle to remember is a healthy body fights disease better which includes acne. The goal of any acne sufferer is to be at optimal health. Acne breakouts typically follow times of stress like when you may be experiencing anxiety due to cramming for exams, family problems, financial crises or pressures at work- the more anxiety, the more hormones, the more flare-ups so strive to keep your stress level down. Also avoid picking!! Make an appointment for a deep cleansing facial for proper extraction. For those breakouts between treatments I recommend using Therapeutic Clay Mask which is sulfur and salicylic acid in a clay base that effectively deep cleanses the pores removing excess oil and blackheads which is a very effective acne treatment that can be used as part of your home care protocol.

What is Acne?

Acne starts with the onset of puberty for most individuals with emotional and physical affects to the individual which can cause many teens and adults to withdraw from normal social life. An excess secretion of the oil glands is associated with acne. This gland secretes thin oil which migrates to the skin's surface to keep it smooth and youthful. The extra oil accumulates in the follicle which bacteria begin to feed off the oil. The digestion of the oil causes a breakdown into fatty acids which causes the cells to stick together- this allows the pore to become clogged with dead cells. The bacteria growth adds more waste cells and more of a mass- this is how blackheads, whiteheads, and cysts develop. As a Clinical Esthetician I highly recommend products that help remove bacteria on the skin. Vitamin A proprionate and benzoyl peroxide(bpo) offers great results. Vitamin A proprionate penetrates the skin's surface- daily use diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, smooths the texture of the skin and flushes out impacted pores. It works to keep cells from sticking together in the follicle preventing pimples from forming. Benzoyl peroxide destroys the bacteria that causes acne. I am having major success in treating acne with Vivant Pharmaceuticals Clear Skin Systems for acne (which doesn't leave the skin dry and flaky) and I highly recommend them for home care protocols. I also highly recommend that you get in- office cosmetic peels to keep the skin exfoliated for a smooth texture of the skin and for better product penetration to help the skin stay clear.
